FAQ's
learn about your BIOS
Q: What is a BIOS anyway?
A: BIOS is an acronym for Basic Input Output System. It is a program that stores configuration details about your computer hardware and enables your computer to boot up. Every time your computer is switched on the BIOS loads configuration data into main memory, performs a routine diagnostic test on your hardware, then loads the operating system. The BIOS resides in a ROM chip, which is mounted on the motherboard, usually in a socket so it is removable.
Q: When should I update my BIOS?
A: The process of flashing the BIOS is only about 98% foolproof. Every time you update your BIOS there's a small chance that you'll end up with a corrupted BIOS and a system that is disabled until you can buy a new BIOS chip. BIOSMAN recommends buying a back up BIOS chip instead of flashing your BIOS. The BIOS we use will be the latest from the motherboard vendors website. Keep in mind a new BIOS revision rarely enhances performance.
Don't flash that BIOS!
If time is important to you, buy a pre programmed BIOS chip with your BIOS update already loaded from BIOSMAN Inc.
Q: How do I remove my BIOS chip?
A: Follow our instructions here for PLCC and DIP chips. BIOSMAN sells 3 kinds of BIOS extraction tools.
Q: what is the CMOS?
A: CMOS =complementary metal-oxide semiconductor
A semiconductor technology that uses less power and generates less heat (enabling higher circuit density) than bipolar semiconductor technologies. (It's another name for a BIOS chip).

>MOST Asked Question<
How do I get support for large hard drives?
or
Do you have a BIOS update that will enable my motherboard to support larger hard drives?
Answers!
1. If your motherboard manufacturer's website does not have a BIOS chip update to download that specifically mentions support for large hard drives, (48bit support), then we do not have it either. You can try Driver guides Firmware page. They do have some enhanced BIOS's. (free)
2. Best option. Purchase a PCI card like the Promise Ultra TX133. This card has its own firmware (BIOS) that will over ride the motherboard BIOS limitations!! Usually they cost around $35.00. This card will also drastically speed up your system due to matching your new hard drive speed to ATA133 specs.
3. Download the Intel Application Accelerator ( for XP or 2000). It can over ride the BIOS settings in some cases.
